Ok first off its normal to be nervous before a driving test, after all you have approx 40 mins to show a complete stranger you can drive in a wide range of road and traffic conditions, combine that with fear of the unknown, where am I going to drive, what manoeuvre etc all add up.

Looking at it realistically, none of the above should matter if you have reached a competent standard of driving. I often hear from students who come to me that they failed after going down a strange road on their test. I often ask what was strange, different colour, shape? Just to usually here “No i just hadn’t been down there before”

Think about it for a moment, a road is just a road, they are usually Grey, made of tarmac and will have road markings somewhere, nothing strange about it, just an unfamiliar location.

So on joining that road, remember to check your mirrors, see who is following you, then take into account your surroundings, Houses, Trees, Fields, determine the speed limits, then scan and plan ahead, looking for signs and changes.

Breaking it down, that strange road is no longer a stranger 🙂
